Spartan Dairy 3 is a Windows-based, stand-alone computer program for use in evaluating and formulating diets for dairy cattle. It was designed to formulate reasonable diets in a relatively short period of time using the latest science.
This web site is designed to give an overview of the product, provide a demonstration version of it, and help you use it effectively.
The program is now available for sale. See "How to Order" for sales information. Although there may still be a few minor bugs, the serious bugs in the last demo are now fixed. A new demonstration version was uploaded to this website on October 18 for free downloading; it is a fully functioning version of the program that will work for 120 days after downloading. See "Demo Download" to get it. Files and library feeds will continue to work after it expires if you purchase the program. This will give you a chance to see if you like it before spending the money.
Most of the important bugs from the May version are gone. However, a few bugs still exist and some things do not work as we had hoped. Please read about these in the "Current bugs in the program" page. The major bugs are:
1. Mixes: Changing the amounts of mix ingredients does not update the total diet properly.
2. Blank columns: The blank columns do not always summarize totals and mixes correctly if you are using units of g/lb, ppm, and IU/lb.
These two bugs will eventually be fixed.
In addition, notes still do not print out in reports, nor can you insert your own logo in reports. We make no promises about these.
